First Trimester Acupuncture Support

Gentle Care During Early Pregnancy
The first trimester is a time of rapid physical, hormonal, and emotional change. Even before pregnancy becomes visible, your body is doing an extraordinary amount of work.
Dr. Michiko provides gentle, individualized acupuncture designed to complement your prenatal care and support your comfort and overall well-being during early pregnancy.
Support for Common First Trimester Changes
Every pregnancy is different. Some patients feel relatively well, while others experience symptoms that affect everyday life.
Acupuncture care may focus on:
• Nausea and digestive comfort
• Fatigue and low energy
• Sleep disruption
• Headaches and muscular tension
• Stress and nervous system regulation
• Emotional well-being
• General comfort as the body adapts to pregnancy
Treatment is based on how you feel that day rather than following a standardized pregnancy protocol.
Nausea and Digestive Comfort
Nausea, changes in appetite, food sensitivities, and digestive discomfort are common during early pregnancy.
Acupuncture may be incorporated as complementary support for nausea and digestive comfort. Treatment is gentle and adapted to your symptoms, energy level, and medical history.
Severe or persistent vomiting, dehydration, inability to keep fluids down, or rapid weight loss requires prompt medical evaluation.
Fatigue, Sleep, and Stress
Early pregnancy fatigue can feel very different from ordinary tiredness. Hormonal changes, interrupted sleep, physical symptoms, and anxiety may all contribute.
Acupuncture sessions offer dedicated time to rest and may focus on relaxation, sleep support, physical tension, and nervous system regulation.
The goal is not to push the body, but to provide calm, restorative care during a period of significant change.
Emotional Support During Early Pregnancy
The first trimester can bring excitement alongside uncertainty and anxiety. This may be especially true for patients with previous pregnancy loss, fertility challenges, or a long treatment journey.
Acupuncture may support relaxation and emotional well-being, but it does not replace mental health care. Persistent anxiety, depression, or distress should be discussed with your prenatal provider or a qualified mental health professional.
Continuing Care After IVF or Fertility Treatment
For patients who conceived through IVF, IUI, or another fertility treatment, acupuncture care can transition naturally from fertility support into early
pregnancy care.
Treatment is adjusted to your new stage while respecting your fertility clinic’s medications, monitoring schedule, and recommendations.
Dr. Michiko does not change or advise patients to discontinue medications prescribed by their fertility specialist or prenatal provider.
A Gentle and Conservative Approach
Acupuncture during pregnancy requires thoughtful point selection, comfortable positioning, and awareness of your medical history.
Before treatment, Dr. Michiko considers:
• How many weeks pregnant you are
• Your current symptoms and energy level
• Your pregnancy and fertility history
• Medications and supplements
• Recommendations from your OB-GYN, midwife, or fertility specialist
• Any complications or conditions requiring additional precautions
Your treatment is adjusted carefully as your pregnancy progresses.
Working Alongside Your Prenatal Team
Acupuncture is complementary care and does not replace prenatal appointments, ultrasounds, screenings, medications, or medical treatment.
Please contact your prenatal healthcare provider promptly if you experience bleeding, severe or one-sided pain, fainting, fever, persistent vomiting, signs of dehydration, or any symptom that concerns you.
When medical concerns or pregnancy complications are present, acupuncture is provided only when appropriate and in coordination with your healthcare team.
Looking Ahead to the Second Trimester
As your pregnancy progresses, care can evolve to address changes in posture, sleep position, muscular tension, and overall physical comfort.
