Second Trimester Acupuncture Support

Comfort and Balance as Your Body Changes
For many patients, the second trimester brings renewed energy and greater comfort. At the same time, a growing belly and changes in posture, weight distribution, circulation, and sleep position may introduce new physical demands.
Dr. Michiko provides gentle, individualized acupuncture designed to complement your prenatal care and support your comfort and overall well-being throughout the second trimester.
Support for Common Second Trimester Changes
Every pregnancy progresses differently. Treatment is adapted to your current symptoms, energy level, comfort, and medical recommendations.
Acupuncture care may focus on:
• Lower back and hip discomfort
• Neck and shoulder tension
• General muscular tightness
• Headaches
• Sleep difficulties
• Digestive discomfort
• Stress and nervous system regulation
• Overall relaxation and physical well-being
Rather than following a fixed pregnancy protocol, each session responds to what your body needs that day.
Back, Hip, and Pelvic Comfort
As your center of gravity changes, muscles surrounding the lower back, hips, and pelvis may work differently to support your growing body.
Acupuncture may be incorporated as complementary care for general tension and physical discomfort. Treatment is gentle and can be adjusted as your posture and mobility change.
Persistent or severe pain should always be evaluated by your prenatal healthcare provider.
Neck and Shoulder Tension
Changes in posture, activity, and sleeping position may contribute to tension through the neck, shoulders, and upper back.
Treatment may focus on releasing general muscular tension, supporting relaxation, and helping you feel more physically comfortable without placing pressure on the abdomen.
Sleep and Rest
Finding a comfortable sleeping position can become more difficult as pregnancy progresses. Physical tension, digestive discomfort, stress, or frequent waking may also affect sleep.
Acupuncture sessions provide dedicated time to rest and may support relaxation and restorative sleep as part of your broader prenatal wellness plan.
Digestive Comfort and Overall Well-Being
Although early pregnancy nausea may improve, some patients experience new digestive changes during the second trimester.
Care may be adapted to support general digestive comfort, relaxation, and overall well-being. New, persistent, or concerning symptoms should be discussed with your prenatal provider.
Comfortable Positioning Throughout Treatment
Your comfort is central to every session. Treatment positioning may include side-lying, semi-reclined, or other supported positions using cushions and bolsters.
Dr. Michiko adjusts positioning, point selection, and treatment techniques according to your stage of pregnancy and how your body feels during each appointment.
A Gentle and Personalized Approach
Before treatment, Dr. Michiko considers:
• How many weeks pregnant you are
• Your current symptoms and energy level
• Your pregnancy and medical history
• Changes since your previous appointment
• Medications and supplements
• Recommendations from your OB-GYN or midwife
• Any complications requiring additional precautions
Your care continues to evolve as your pregnancy progresses.
Working Alongside Your Prenatal Team
Acupuncture is complementary care and does not replace prenatal appointments, screenings, medications, physical therapy, or other medically recommended treatment.
Contact your prenatal healthcare provider promptly if you experience bleeding, fluid leakage, painful or regular contractions, severe abdominal or pelvic pain, fever, fainting, severe headache, vision changes, sudden swelling, reduced fetal movement once movement has become established, or any other concerning symptom.
When pregnancy complications or specific medical concerns are present, acupuncture is provided only when appropriate and in coordination with your healthcare team.
Looking Ahead to the Third Trimester
As your due date approaches, care can evolve to address increased physical demands, sleep, relaxation, fetal positioning concerns, and preparation for birth.
