Prepare for Your Appointments

Prepare for Your Appointments

Practical tools to help you feel more prepared.

Appointments can involve unfamiliar information and decisions. A short list of questions, a summary of your history, and a few notes about symptoms can help you make the most of your time.

Use the sections below for a first fertility consultation, an appointment after pregnancy loss, or your first acupuncture visit.

Questions for Your First Fertility Consultation

You do not need to ask everything at once. Choose the questions most relevant to your situation.

Understanding the Evaluation

  • What might be contributing to our difficulty conceiving?

  • Which tests do you recommend, and what would each tell us?

  • Should my partner or sperm provider also be evaluated?

  • Do any tests need to happen at a particular point in my cycle?

Understanding Your Options

  • What treatment options are appropriate for me, and why?

  • What are the benefits, risks, and alternatives?

  • How does my age or medical history affect the recommended timeline?

  • How should I interpret the success rates for my circumstances?

Planning Ahead

  • How often will appointments be needed?

  • What costs should I clarify before starting?

  • Should I change any medications or supplements?

  • Who should I contact with questions between appointments?

Bring previous fertility records if available. They may help your team understand what has already been evaluated.

Preparing for Your First Acupuncture Visit
Bring your questions and a picture of your current care.

Before your appointment, complete the fertility intake form provided by the clinic. This gives Dr. Michiko time to review your history and goals.

Helpful information includes:

  • Your main concerns and what you hope to address

  • Relevant diagnoses, procedures, and test results

  • Current medications, supplements, and allergies

  • Your fertility treatment schedule, if applicable

  • Any possibility of pregnancy or a confirmed pregnancy

  • Previous experiences with acupuncture, including discomfort or fainting

  • Bleeding conditions or medications that affect bleeding

Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your arms and legs. Unless your medical team has instructed you to fast, avoid arriving very hungry. Tell Dr. Michiko about any positioning needs or concerns about needles.

Leave With Clear Next Steps

Before an appointment ends, consider asking:

  • What happens next?

  • When should I expect results or follow-up?

  • Which symptoms should prompt a call?

  • Who should I contact if I have questions?

You can ask for information to be repeated or written down. Being prepared means having support for the conversation—not knowing all the answers in advance.
